HEAD'S WELCOME

From the founding in 1921 of the original catering school specialized in teaching culinary arts, to the College of hospitality, business and tourism where future chefs, hotel staff and managers, restaurant owners and travel agency staff learn together daily in harmony, what a big stride we have made!
This is an establishment that has been able to diversify its vocational routes from basic training NVQ2 to further education NVQ5, a highly renowned establishment whose reputation goes far beyond the borders of Alsace and France.
Our students are well trained so that they are quickly employable in their chosen fields and are fully appreciated as trainees by professionals, including our European partners.
The know-how of our teachers stands out and is not only highly praised world-wide by a great number of schools, it is equally sought after by professionals.
The discipline of our students, the high standards of our learning ethos and the pedagogical innovation of our teachers will always be the pillars of our school.

ALL ABOUT OUR BACKGROUND

The catering and hotel management school was originally founded with the support of the City Council of Strasbourg and the Chamber of Commerce following the initiative of local hoteliers and restaurant owners.

October 1921	The catering and hotel management school first opened in the city centre of Strasbourg.
September 1939	The original school closed as WWII broke out.
October 1945	The school re-opened bearing a new name and moved into the building that was meant to welcome the school before WWII broke out.
1949	The tasting restaurant welcoming outside guests opened its doors.
1965	The department of tourism opened and the establishment was renamed ‘‘School of catering, hotel management and tourism.’’
1970	The Higher National Degree - a further education diploma - welcomed the first students.
1972	Today’s buildings started being erected at the outskirts of Strasbourg in the neigbouring town of Illkirch-Graffenstaden along the Rhine.
November 1974	The school moved into its newly built facilities.
1975	Was year when the old building located in the city centre of Strasbourg closed down.
October 1977	The training / pedagogical restaurant opened on the new premises.
1987	The further education school of catering and hotel management was created training students up to a Master’s Degree. .
1988	The headmaster of our school was among the founding fathers of the European associaton of hotel and tourism schools. The training / pedagogical restaurant was renovated for the first time.
1989	The refurbishment of the school started in the school libray, the dormitories, the sick room, classrooms and in the kitchens.
September 2001	The Higher National Diploma of Tourism split into two qualification routes: - Selling products. - Organising.
2002	Again the training / pedagogical restaurant was fully renovated.
September 2003	A new Higher National Diploma was implemented. It is called ‘‘Accommodation manager’’ and it is based on a European curriculum.
Spring 2004	A training hotel opened within the buildings of the school. The school launched its first Comenius project.
2009	The school became holder of the Erasmus charter.
2010	The school welcomed its first European Comenius assistant from Sweden

LOCATION

The school is located at Illkirch-Graffenstaden, about 8 kilometres South of the City centre of Strasbourg.

The school is part of a campus including the University of Technology and the department of pharmacy. It is located close to an area housing research and high technology activities

Getting to the school using public transport :

The school is well connected to the city centre by tram. The nearest tramway station – called Campus d’Illkirch – is at a stone’s throw.
